Acquired Brain Injury Specialists

At Living with ABI Ltd we are dedicated to improving the lives of families living with acquired brain injury (ABI) and neurological illness, through the provision of specialist psychological therapy and involvement in research.

Family Sensitive Cognitive Rehabilitation - We work in partnership with brain injury survivors and their families to support recovery and re-engagement with valued activities and repairing of relationships.

Specialist Psychological Assessment - We provide highly specialist assessments aimed at developing a comprehensive psychological understanding of a situation and what may be helpful, whilst building engagement through respectful listening and culturally sensitive practice. We are able to provide cognitive assessments, child and family needs assessments, psychological assessments, diagnostic Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) assessments, and forensic psychology assessments.

Family Consultations - One-off or ongoing family consultations ensure that the needs and views of the whole family are included within the rehabilitation process. Consultations are focused on identifying and addressing the concerns of family members, attending to family relationships and relationships with the rehab team. Families can attend one-off consultations or meet as and when needed, so as not to create burden through excessive appointments and professional involvement.

Psychological therapy for ABI survivors, partners, children and family members - Ongoing psychological therapy focused on recovery and healing from the effects of ABI or neurological illness, attending to issues of trauma, grief and identity within a culturally sensitive framework.

Testimonials

Dr Mark Holloway
Senior Brain Injury Case Manager and Expert Witness

Evidence from practice and from research shows that it is never one person who is affected by a brain injury, it is a family, and the whole family system and dynamic is changed. The family members’ trauma may be different, but it is trauma nonetheless. Therefore, for our rehabilitation and support efforts to be most effective, we must include the whole family, they are the natural support system for an individual and excluding them is counter-productive and wasteful. Freddie has a very inclusive approach, allowing all parties to be open and help reconstruct shattered lives.”

“I have worked with Freddie for four years as an external supervisor/consultant to his practice.
I have found his practice to be exemplary, he is able to hold anti-discriminatory practice at the centre of all that he does as a white man and makes efforts to centre himself where the client is.

He is a creative psychologist who is developing practices that assist his clients to take active control in their lives at points where this may not have been considered possible due to injury and or other circumstances.
It is a pleasure to be working alongside Freddie and witnessing his work empathic and supportive work with others.”

“My client has a brain injury and introducing Freddie to her teenage daughter to support her adjustment to her mother's injury has made so much difference. He has supported her in rebuilding her relationship with her mother and given her a safe space to share what it means living with a mother with a brain injury.”
